New Organization To Promote Biotech Industry in North Texas

Texas business is usually synonymous with oil and gas companies, airlines and top entrepreneurs, but one group is looking to change that.

BioNorthTX, a new organization with an office in Southlake, has been formed to promote the biotech, life sciences and pharmaceutical companies in DFW. The organization is focusing on attracting biotechnology workers and management while encouraging collaboration and networking between biotech companies in Texas.

Texas has more than 3,600 biotechnology, manufacturing and R&D operations, according to a state report last year. Kay Tieman, co-founder of BioNorthTX says about a third of those operations are in the DFW region, according to the Star-Telegram.

“We’re kind of a sleeping giant.” said Tieman, according to Star-Telegram. Tieman, who has worked for the Biotechnology Industry Organization says that North Texas has the talent and the money necessary for growth in the biotech industry.
